Shashank Gupta has obtained his MA in English and Cultural Studies from Christ (Deemed to be University), Bangalore. His research areas are based in the intersections of Indian Literatures in English, Marxist Philosophy, Psychoanalysis, Anti-Caste Thought, and Critical Theory in general. In the future, he wishes to engage in an in-depth study of the relationship between the caste-system and political economy in India.
His interest in memory studies comes from the fact that Dalit and Adivasi literatures often deal with themes of socio-political memories as well as autobiographical recollections. While he abstains from the eelebration of Memory Studies as a fresh field of critical inquiry that needs to establish its focus on 'micro-narratives,' he does appreciate the potential research that this field can generate in the larger context of critical social sciences and theory.
